NATURAL DURABILITY
Considered highly resistant to termites and white and brown rot fungi, but susceptible to marine borers. In contact with the soil, H. stilbocarpa hayne exhibited an average lifespan of less than 9 years, being considered moderately durable; however, in laboratory tests, it showed medium to high resistance to attack by wood-destroying organisms. In a marine environment, the wood of Hymenaea sp. tested was intensely attacked by boring organisms.
WORKABILITY
A wood of jatoba is moderately easy to work with, can be planed, glued, screwed, and nailed without issues. It exhibits strength for turning and slicing. The finishing is good. It accepts paint, varnish, and polish.
