NATURAL DURABILITY
The heartwood presents moderate resistance to attacks by decay-causing fungi but high resistance against dry-wood termites. In laboratory tests, this wood was considered resistant to fungi caused by Gloeophyllum Trabeum, Coriolus Versicolor, and Poria Monticola. However, in a field test with posts in contact with the soil, this wood showed an average lifespan of less than 9 years.
WORKABILITY
The garapa wood is easy to work with as long as appropriate tools are used due to the presence of silica; however, it glues well and provides a good finish.
